Jerrard DaShawn Tarrant (born May 29, 1989) is an American football free safety for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He attended Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Georgia.

College career

Tarrant was redshirted in 2007.[1] On April 25, 2008, Tarrant was arrested for rape allegations. He was released on April 26 on $40,000 bail and was suspended indefinitely from the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team.[2] Tarrant missed the entire 2008 season, and after the charges were dropped in February 2009, Tarrant was reinstated to the football team.[3]

Tarrant played cornerback and returned punts for the Yellow Jackets in 2009. He had two punt returns for touchdowns and two touchdown returns on defense. In 2010 he was switched to safety and had three forced fumbles and fumble recoveries as well as two pass breakups.[1]

In his career, Tarrant recorded five interceptions and 113 tackles in 26 games with 18 starts. He decided to forgo his senior season and declare for the 2011 NFL Draft on January 13, 2011.[1]

Professional career

Pre-draft

Tarrant was projected to be a third- or fourth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft,[4] but ended up not being drafted. The only Georgia Tech player to be drafted was running back Anthony Allen, in the seventh round.Tarrant was signed by the New York Giants in the 2011 free agent signing period.
