Durrell has a tattoo of "Summer" on one arm and "Time" on the other, an ode to his nickname, "Summertime". He is known for his leaping ability and can often be seen in games running down the court calling for alley-oop slam dunks. Durrell Summers is majoring in Sociology.
College Career
Durrell Summers played four years with the Michigan State Spartans After losing in the regional finals game during his senior year of high school to Jackson Christian High School.[2] He had a career game on January 1st, 2009 against Ohio State. Shooting 6/9 from the three point line and 8/14 in field goals, Summers came out with a total of 26 points to help lead Michigan State over the Buckeyes. As a junior during the 2009-2010 season Summers averaged 11.3 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field in 26.2 minutes per game.
Summers decided to stay with the Spartans for a senior year. Tom Izzo's returning class with Summers and Kalin Lucas in addition to the incoming freshman class, had high expectations for the 2010-2011 season. The Spartans were ranked #2 in the AP basketball polls.[3]During Summer's senior season he averaged 11.6 points per game while shooting 38.7% from the field in 29 minutes per game.[4]
