The town has about 26,275 inhabitants as at the end of the 2000 census.[1]
The town is located on the Offin River.
The main ethnic composition is the Denkyira who are Akan people.[2] The town is ruled by Denkyirahene. The current Denkyirahene was installed in 1955. He is Odeefuo Boa Amponsem III.[2]
