Biography
Dream of Sleeping began in 2003 with an EP titled Dream of Sleeping, recorded by Danny Lint and Neil Cartmell. The CD was produced by Lint, who also arranged the music, and the songs were written by Cartmell. The songs on the EP include: "A Sobering Mirror To Look Into", "Continue or Start Again", "I'm Not Writing this Down" and "Time Moves Slower Here". The artwork for the CD showed a moth trapped in a glass with a light shining on it. Lint and Cartmell sent the EP to channel 4 teletext using their middle names on the credits. They received a rating of four out of five and were chosen for demo of the week.
In 2005 Danny Lint left the band and Neil Cartmell kept the name Dream of Sleeping for his future recordings.
Reviews
Dream of Sleeping has been reviewed by several music magazines including the UK based Computer Music (magazine)[1], who wrote in one review: "The band is well named, what with the downbeat nature of this beautifully melancholic, introspective song. A simple construction of acoustic guitar and voice, with low-level accompaniment from organ and backing vocals, keeps the listener connected to the lyrical sentiment of the song. It's short and sweet, with no time or need for more complex instrumentation.[1]
Computer music also reviewed the Dream of Sleeping song "To the Ends of the Earth" in issue number 95.
Planet Sound[2] reviewed the song "Scars", giving it a seven out of ten. The review states, "A former winner of best widdler as a metal guitarist, the Leicester singer has certainly changed his style since. Indeed the reason "Scars" works is due to its understated simplicity. Vocals like Coldplay at their most sinister over sparse guitars like classic smog.[2]
Dream of Sleeping was most recently played on "Tom Robinson" a popular UK radio show after being discovered by the host of the show for the second time after a friend know only as "Bob the Spider Turtle" sent more songs to the host including his newer version of an older song called "The Longest Day"
