Reviews

Dream of sleeping has been reviewed by several music magazines including the UK based "Computer Music (magazine)" [http://www.computermusic.co.uk/ ] ;

"The band is well named, what with the downbeat nature of this beautifully melancholic, introspective song. A simple construction of acoustic guitar and voice, with low-level accompaniment from organ and backing vocals, keeps the listener connected to the lyrical sentiment of the song. It's short and sweet, with no time or need for more complex instrumentation.

The arrangement is simple too, with easy pace. Essentially, it's a song of two halves, each with a double verse, and the second half builds with the yearning organ and vocal harmony, finally bowing out on the reflective organ part. It could easily take another verse and chorus after the organ, but the economy works as it is.

The key to the overall sound is the blanket reverb on the guitar and vocal. A "big hall" setting creates a warm, cavernous environment that benefits the sombre mood. The warmth of the nylon-strung guitar also plays an important part in developing the track's comfortable enveloping sound.

A bit more attention could have been paid to the vocal itself, though - it tends to rush in a few places, which occasionally breaks the spell. But don't lose the fragile tremble on the word "heart", which is truly a key emotional moment." - Computer Music (magazine) 2008 (issue 127)

Dream of sleeping has also been reviewed on "Planet Sound" [http://www.teletext.co.uk/PlanetSound/default.aspx] ;

"A former winner of best widdler as a metal guitarist , the Leicester singer has certainly changed his style since.

Indeed the reason Scars works is due to its understated simplicity.Vocals like Coldplay at their most sinister over sparse guitars like classic smog.

It could do with more variety but the torment in Cartmells' keening voice is clear and gently piercing."

7/10 - planet sound/teletext 2008

Dream of sleeping was also reviewed by "Computer music (magazine)" for the song "To the ends of the earth" in issue numder 95
