Doug Biro is an American writer/director/producer at his own company, Hudson River Films. In 2006 he directed and produced “Herbie Hancock: Possibilities”— a feature documentary about collaboration and the creative process. In 2010, he co-produced and co-directed (with Joe Mardin) “The Greatest Ears In Town”—a film about iconic music producer, Arif Mardin and his 40 years of hit-making with Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Bette Midler, Carly Simon, the Bee Gees, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan, Norah Jones and many others. During the last few years Biro has directed and/or produced short films, concert films and music videos with artists including Robert Plant, Kings of Leon, Usher, Nigel Kennedy, Rufus Wainwright, Damien Rice, Gladys Knight, 3 Doors Down, Dave Matthews Band, Maxwell, Kate Hudson, Marion Cotillard, Norah Jones and Mariah Carey. He directed numerous branded content projects for tv and the web for American Express, Morgans Hotel Group, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Random House and the New York Philharmonic. As creative director at RCA Records, his supervision of videos, packaging and advertising campaigns helped artists like Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Elvis Presley sell millions of records. As writer/creative director at McCann-Erickson Advertising, his tv commercials for Coca-Cola, Levi’s and other top brands won numerous awards.
A Coke tv spot he wrote called “Bladeroller” (dir. by David Fincher) is the first tv commercial (1994) added to the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He directed the 2010 documentary The Greatest Ears in Town: The Arif Mardin Story, which is about the career of notable music producer Arif Mardin.
