Musical characteristics
Erickson has experimented with music in several forms since the late 1980s, from punk and funk to electronic music. The overall theme of his work with the band Velvet Acid Christ is typically negative, culturally critical, and misanthropic; his work with Toxic Coma is a more experimental blend of the same with humor that often strays into parody.
Inspiration
Erickson claims to draw most of his creative inspiration from an abusive, repressed childhood and the "impurities" of modern Western culture. He has also been inspired by a diverse array of other musicians and their works; these influences range from bands such as Skinny Puppy, Orbital, and The Legendary Pink Dots to more mainstream acts like Madonna, The B52's, and Garbage.[cite news]
