The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia statistical region.[2]
A small 18th century chapel at the crossroads in the centre of the settlement is dedicated to Saint Roch.[3]
The Slovene writer, political activist, playwright and critic Fran Levstik was born in the village in 1831. A Commemorative plaque was unveiled in 1889 on what remains of the house in which he was born. In 1987 a bronze bust was also placed nearby.[4]
