Dolnje Retje is a small village to the southeast of Velike Lašče in central Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia statistical region.[2]

A small 18th century chapel at the crossroads in the centre of the settlement is dedicated to Saint Roch.[3]

The Slovene writer, political activist, playwright and critic Fran Levstik was born in the village in 1831. A Commemorative plaque was unveiled in 1889 on what remains of the house in which he was born. In 1987 a bronze bust was also placed nearby.[4]
