The Doha Film Institute (DFI) is an independent cultural organisation established to incorporate Qatar’s film initiatives under one banner.[1] DFI was founded in 2010 by H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.[2] Amanda Palmer (journalist) is the Executive Director of DFI.[3]
DFI conducts a variety of initiatives aimed at promoting and supporting Arab filmmaking, and building a long-term sustainable film industry in Qatar. These include funding for MENA and international films, production, year-round educational programs, film screenings, as well as the annual Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF).[4]
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) is the Doha Film Institute’s annual film festival. The festival is one of Qatar's largest entertainment events attracting over 50,000 guests in 2010.[5] DTFF was launched in 2009 through a cultural partnership between DFI and Tribeca Enterprises.[6]
The 3rd annual DTFF is scheduled to take place from October 25 – 29 2011 at Katara Cultural Village, Doha.
