Title of discourse
The original title given to the writings is not known.[4] Insufficient information has survived from the manuscript to reconstruct the original title.
The alternative title ogdoad and ennead is relevant to the writings with regards to the set or system of thinking of the period into which the author(s) found themselves, which did in this context relate to their understanding of the order and structure of outer space, especially concerning the universe (the solar-system). These factors were integral to their gnosticism which considered the continued existence of the soul as having indications from the positions and motion (movements in their celestial sphere) of the planets, specifically only those available to direct observation, these being classified as the known planets.[5][6][7]
