Dint Island

Dint Island

Dint Island (69°17′S 71°49′W / 69.283°S 71.817°W / -69.283; -71.817) is a rocky island, 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km) long, lying 2 nautical miles (3.7 km) off the west side of Alexander Island in Lazarev Bay. Probably first seen from the air by the United States Antarctic Service (USAS), 1939-41. First mapped from air photos taken by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947–48, by Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1960. So named by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) because a distinctive cirque makes a dent, or dint, on the south side of the island.
