Dinacharya Institute Established 2007 Type Private Director Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya, MD, MPH Location New York City, New York, USA, India Campus New York Website dinacharya.org The Dinacharya Institute is a college specializing in teaching holistic medicine and Ayurveda to licensed professionals in the health and wellness fields. The Institute was founded by Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya in 2007, to train practitioners in Ayurvedic medicine and promote the Ayurvedic community in New York City.
The Institute also conducts an annual thinktank by invitation only in India, to teach and collaborate with ayurvedic physicians who are eager to merge modern science with clinical evidence and ayurvedic practice. The school has collaborated with the CSIR Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, The Agri-Horticultural Society of India, The National Research Institute of Ayurveda, The AVP Group, The Dept of AYUSH/Government of India, the Indian Institute of Toxicological Research </ref>, and the Nair Hospital of Bombay. DINacharya is also the only college in partnership with the AVP Group with the goal of establishing international standards of education.
Contents
Curriculum
The Dinacharya Institute offers a comprehensive curriculum, leading to certification as a Ayurvedic Wellness Coach after 200 live classroom, clinical and experiential hours. Ayurvedic Health Coaches have completed 500 hours of study, including clinical experience, study in India, and research. Non-certification courses and workshops also occur. The college exceeds the educational guidelines of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), and is recognized by both NAMA, AAPNA and AADI-The Academy of Ayurvedic Doctors of India.
Topics of study include: nutritional coaching, ethics of practice, clinical assessment, herbal medicines use, dietary recommendations, yoga, pranayama, and lifestyle management. All students receive a 1:1 personalized guru as a mentor during their study, and all students gain clinical experience. [2]
Faculty
Notable faculty include authors Dr Robert Svoboda and Dr Vasant Lad. All faculty are ayurvedic professionals and clinicians. Most are Ayurvedic physicians with a BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) from India. The director is a Harvard-trained physician-scientist who is a clinical assistant professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College. The faculty actively teach health care providers about the ability of the ancient science of Ayurveda to prognosticate disease using scientific literature and clinical evidence. The school is affiliated with the AVP Group in Coimbatore. Faculty include Dr. Aparna Bapat, Dr. Mayura Parulekar, Dr. Vasudha Gupta, Dr. Vishwanath Guddadar, Dr. Nambi Namboodiri, Dr. Pankaj Wanjarkhedkar, Dr. Ashlesha Raut, Dr. Debashis Panja, Dr. U Indulal, Dr. P.
