Eric Alfred Winkler (
February 13 1920 –March 18 1995 ) was a Canadian politician.Born in
Hanover, Ontario , he was aprisoner of war for three years after being shot down in 1942 duringWorld War II . In 1946, he was elected as a councilor for the city of Hanover and was elected mayor in 1948.He was first elected to the
Canadian House of Commons in the riding ofGrey—Bruce in the 1957 federal election. A Progressive Conservative, he was re-elected in 1958, 1962, 1963, and 1965. From 1963 to 1967, he was the Chief Opposition Whip.In 1967, he was elected to the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the riding ofGrey South . A Progressive Conservative, he was re-elected in 1975. He was Chair of the Management Board of Cabinet, Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations, Minister of Financial and Commercial Affairs, Minister of Revenue, and Commissioner, Board of Internal Economy in the government ofBill Davis .References
