Dick Darby

The Rt Rev Harold Richard "Dick" Darby was the Suffragan Bishop of Sherwood from 1975 until 1989. He was born on 28 February 1919 [1] and educated at Durham University. He was ordained in 1951 and began his ecclesiastical career with curacies in Leyton and Harlow.[2] Following these he was Vicar of Shrub End Colchester[3] and then Waltham Abbey before being appointed Dean of Battle in 1970, a post he held until his ascension to the Episcopate five years later. An honorary doctor of Nottingham University,[4] he retired in 1989 and died on Boxing Day 1993.
