Tony Porter (b.
1952 ,Buckinghamshire ) is theBishop of Sherwood (part of theDiocese of Southwell and Nottingham ). He wasconsecrated on the21 March 2006 inYork Minster by theArchbishop of York ,John Sentamu .Career
From 1977-1980, Tony Porter served his first curacy at
Edgware Parish Church in theDiocese of London , and from 1980-1983 he wasCurate at St. Mary'sHaughton Green in theDiocese of Manchester .From 1983-1987, he was Priest in Charge of Christ Church,
Bacup ,Lancashire , and he was madeVicar of that congregation in 1987. In 1991, he was madeRector of Holy Trinity Platt Church,Rusholme ,Manchester .During his time in Manchester, he was also
chaplain to bothManchester City F.C. andGreater Manchester Police , and became Honorary Canon ofManchester Cathedral in 2004.Education
He has studied at both
Hertford College, Oxford andRidley Hall , Cambridge, where he trained for ordination. He has written several books.Family
Tony is married to Lucille, a part-time I.T. tutor, and they have two sons and two daughters. Tony enjoys sport, having played cricket and hockey for many years.
