Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of movies based on the books by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney. Just like the books, the movies are the journals of Greg Heffley, the series' main character, who is played by Zachary Gordon.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)

Jeff Kinney announced that a film based on the first book would be produced by 20th Century Fox. The film was released on March 19, 2010, moved up from an April 2 release date.[1] It was directed by Thor Freudenthal, who also directed Hotel for Dogs. The film starred Zachary Gordon as Greg Heffley, Robert Capron as Rowley Jefferson, Rachael Harris as Susan Heffley, Steve Zahn as Frank Heffley, Devon Bostick as Rodrick Heffley, Connor and Owen Fielding as Manny Heffley, Chloë Grace Moretz as a new character named Angie, Grayson Russell as Fregley, Laine MacNeil as Patty Farrell, and Karan Brar as Chirag Gupta.[2][3]

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011)

There is a second film in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid film series that was released on March 25, 2011, which was based on the second book, Rodrick Rules, with Zachary Gordon returning as Greg Heffley. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules was also filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Unlike the first film, it was directed by David Bowers. New main characters include Holly Hills (Peyton List), Grandpa (Terence Kelly), and Bill Walter (Fran Kranz).

Future films

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012)

In an interview, Bostick said that The Last Straw could be in the works and is "90% sure it will happen" depending on the success of Rodrick Rules. The film is currently in the works.[4] On August 9th, 2011, Zachary Gordon announced on his Facebook page that the film's title was switched from The Last Straw to Dog Days. Along with some photos from the set.
