Diane Greene was a founder of VMware and the CEO from 1998 to 2008. Greene, Mendel Rosenblum, Scott Devine, Edward Wang and Edouard Bugnion founded VMware in 1998.[1]
Born in Rochester, New York, Greene received her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1976 from the University of Vermont,[2] and earned a Master's Degree in Naval Architecture from MIT in 1978. In 1988 she earned a second Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.[3] Rosenblum and Greene, who are married, first met while at Berkeley.[4]
On July 8, 2008, Greene was unexpectedly fired as president and CEO by the VMware Board of Directors and replaced by Paul Maritz, a retired 14-year Microsoft veteran.[5]
Since August 2006, Greene has been on the board of directors of Intuit.[6]
