- Edouard Bugnion
Edouard (Ed) Bugnion is one of VMware's an original 5 founders Ed Bugnion was Chief Architect at VMware until 2004. He was also Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Stanford University prior to co-founding VMware. His primary research interests are in operating systems and computer architectures, and he was a key member of the SimOS and Disco virtual machine research teams. He holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from ETH Zurich and a master's degree from Stanford University. [1] Ed was crucial in developing the NSA's secure desktop inititive also know as NetTop. [2]
Ed is currently working at Cisco as VP/CTO, of Cisco's Server Access and Virtualization Business Unit.
Post VMware and prior to working at Cisco he was chief technology officer at Nuova Systems a company he also co-founded. [3] Nuova was acquired by Cisco systems in April 2008. [4] Ed currently heads up the Server Access and Virtualization Business Unit at Cisco which focuses on the Nexus product line. [5]
He has co-authored many papers on the subject of operating systems and virtualization such as “Disco: Running Commodity Operating Systems on Scalable Multiprocessors,” ACM Transactions on Computer Systems, 15(4), November 1997. C0-authors Scott Devine, Kinshuk Govil, and Mendel Rosenblum. [6]
