Dhruvam (Malayalam: ധ്രുവം, meaning: Certainly) is a 1993 Malayalam action film directed by Joshiy and written by S. N. Swamy and Sajan Babu; starring Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, Gauthami, Tiger Prabhakar, and Vikram in the main roles. The film was among the highest grossing Malayalam films of 1993. The music is composed by S. P. Venkatesh.

Plot

A hangman brought to central jail to hang Hyder Marakkar (Tiger Prabhakar), a notorious criminal with terror links, gets killed in a road accident. But DIG Marar (Janardhanan) smells a foul play. He reaches Meenakshipuram along with Jose Nariman (Suresh Gopi), a smart young police officer to meet Narasimha Mannadiar (Mammootty), a revered village feudal lord. Mannadiar, belonging to the royal family had once ruled the state. Though, the power later went to the government, he is worshipped and revered by the villagers. Narasimha Mannadiar is known for his generous and fearless attitude, and his thirst to justice and peace to his villager has made him an enemy in the eyes of politicians and certain group of police officers. Upon the request of Nariman, Viramani (Babu Namboothiri), the secretary of Mannadiar tells him a few instances from the life of Mannadiar that made his so popular among the public. One among them was related to Veerasimha Mannadiar (Jayaram), his younger brother. Veeran felt a liking for Maya, and informed Narasimha Mannadiar about it. But just a few days before the marriage, a young man (Vikram) arrived at the house of Mannadiar introducing himself as Bhadran, who is in love with Maya. He also added that her parents had agreed for this marriage without the consent of Maya. Narasimha Mannadiar called off the marriage and got Maya married to Bhadran. Marakkar under whom Bhadran was working, tries to kill him for leaving the gang. Veerasimhan saves Bhadran and is appointed as the driver of Mannadiar. Veerasimhan plans to go to US for higehr studies. But on the way he is killed by Hyder Marakkar. From that day onwards, Narasimha Mannadiar is waiting for a chance to avange for his brother's death. Upon hearing the story, Nariman decides to help Narasimha Mannadiar in his action. Though convicted by court for death, Marakkar tries every possible way to escape gallows. Mannadiar's battle of revenge against Hayder Marakkar forms the rest of the story.
