Mixed martial arts career

Before he started his pro MMA career, he was a street fighter.[2] Stojnić made his UFC debut on February 7, 2009 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida against the future UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, losing to Velasquez by a second round TKO.[3]

He was cut from the UFC organization following a bloody UFC 99 loss to Stefan Struve in what was billed as a loser leaves the UFC match.[4] The fight saw 5 foot 10 Stojnic pitted against the tallest man in UFC history, a freak-show height difference of one foot. Stefan Struve was badly cut open with hammer fists from Stojnic while on his back in the first round and despite bleeding excessively and the fight almost being stopped by the doctor, Struve persevered in a bloody mess of a second round by gaining Stojnic's back and eventually locking in a rear naked choke to win by submission at 2:37 of the second round.

In an interview given in early 2010 Stojnic commented, if he wins his next two fights he will be re-signed with the UFC. Denis Stojnic is also in talks with San Jose CA based Strikeforce this was stated in an interview by Stojnic in August 2010 [2]

In his fourth fight since leaving the UFC, he defeated young prospect Mladen Kujundzic by submission with only one second left on the timer of the first round.

After winning four straight fights since leaving the UFC, Stojnic gained a new four-fight contract with the premier organization; his return likely being in December. This news is yet to be officially confirmed by the UFC.[5]
