It fully took power after the liberation of the country from German forces on November 28. Its interim Prime Minister was First Secretary Enver Hoxha of the Communist Party of Albania. The interim government was to be in existence until the holding of democratic elections and the convening of a Constituent Assembly. Elections for a new Republic were held on December 2, 1945, and on January 11, 1946 the People's Republic of Albania was proclaimed.
