School Mission
"To provide a learning environment in which all students are respected, nurtured, guided, and challenged to reach their maximum potential as self-directed, lifelong learners and members of a culturally diverse society."[2] School message: Life is not about finding your self, It is about creating yourself.
History
The school was founded in 1995 as a International Baccalaureatte Middle School. Since its founding, it has been called "one of the top middle schools in North Carolina".
In 2008 the school was included in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools budget for reconstruction. But reconstruction was later delayed, and CMS eventually announced it wouldn't happen.
In early 2010, the school's Future Cities team was announced to be in the Top 5 around the nation. After a few more weeks of elimination, the Future Cities team was announced on February 16 to be the No. 1 in the nation. The school received a trophy, and the National Finals grand prize team received a trip to U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Also, 3 members of the team traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet President Barack Obama.[3]
Davidson IB also has a notable science olympiad program, which has placed 13th in the nation in the past. In 2010, they placed 4th in the state.
Davidson IB is one of 10 schools who will close down next year due to CMS's shrinking budget.[4][5]
