David McMillan, born in Dublin on 14 December 1988, is a footballer currently playing in the League of Ireland with St. Patrick's Athletic. McMillan plays as a striker or winger.

Club career

UCD AFC

McMillan signed for UCD during the summer of 2008 spending the majority of this season in the inaugural 'A Championship' squad. UCD went on to win this competition with a 2-1 AET win against Bohemian F.C. in the final. McMillan scored an 84th minute equaliser. He then went on to make his first-team debut away to Cork City at Turners Cross in September 2008 in a 2-0 defeat, as an 89th minute substitute.[1]

After UCD's relegation to the First Division McMillan began the season in the first team squad. He opened his goal scoring account against Monaghan United on the 20th March 2009 in a 3-0 home win.

On Friday 30 October 2009 UCD successfully completed their return to the League of Ireland Premier Division with a 5-0 victory away to Athlone Town, in which McMillan grabbed the third goal. This win culminated with Shelbourne losing to Longford Town on the same night handed UCD the First Division title and secured their return to the Premier Division on the first time of asking with one game remaining. McMillan finished the season with 12 league goals including UCD's last goal of the season, an excellent header from ten yards out. He was presented the UCD AFC Fans' New Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards for 2009 in what capped an excellent first full season in the League of Ireland. The goal of the season trophy was awarded for his strike against Shelbourne F.C. in Tolka Park on April 10 where UCD ran out 3-1 winners.

UCD started the 2010 season in the Premier Division excellently, winning many plaudits for their style of play. In June 2010 McMillan himself was named the Airtricity/Soccer Writers' Association Player of the Month for May after he enjoyed a prolific run of form which saw him score five times in as many games. McMillan struck during wins over frontrunners Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic, and bagged a brace in a convincing six-nil win over Bray Wanderers. The then 21-year-old also netted in the two-all draw against Galway United at Terryland Park. [2]

St Patrick's Athletic

On the 12th January 2011, after an impressive season with UCD, McMillan signed a contract with St. Patrick's Athletic for the 2011 season. He was given the number 10 jersey. [3]. McMillan had a good start to the campaign, scoring against Cliftonville in the Setanta Sports Cup and Galway and Dundalk in the league.

McMillan made his first appearance in European competition in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League against ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar of Iceland on 7th July 2011. In the second round, he went on to score a crucial away goal against FC Shakhter Karagandy of Kazakhstan in a 2-1 away defeat. [4] St. Patrick's Athletic went on to win the tie 3-2 on aggregate before crashing out to Karpaty Lviv of Ukraine in the 3rd qualifying round.

On the 10th of October 2011, McMillan scored in the final of the Leinster Senior Cup against Bohemians in Dalymount Park. St. Pat's won the game 2-0 and lifted this cup for the first time since 2000.[5]

International career

During September 2010, McMillan was called into the Irish U23's squad to face Estonia in Tallinn in the International Challenge Trophy after some promising displays on his return from a long injury lay-off. Ireland won the game 1-0, with McMillan winning his first international cap. [6]
