Dave Mulcahy (born 28 January 1978 in County Kilkenny) is an Irish football player who currently plays for St. Patrick's Athletic in the League of Ireland Premier Division [1].

Mulcahy played primarily as a striker so far in his career but been a hard tackling midfielder for Pats. His previous clubs include Evergreen FC, Kilkenny City FC and Waterford United. He signed for Pats in early 2006 after winning Waterford United's Player of the Year award for the 2005 season.

He scored the first goal for St Pats in the 2006 FAI Cup Final, before losing 4-3 to Derry City [2].

Although a fans favourite at St Pat's Mulcahy was placed on the transfer list in July 2007. On 30 July 2007 Mulcahy joined Waterford United.

Cork City

In January 2008, Mulcahy joined Cork City on a two-year deal. He started off well, playing in Cork's first two League of Ireland matches, against Bray Wanderers and Shamrock Rovers. However, he would never play in a Cork City jersey in the League of Ireland again. His only other matches were against Cliftonville in the Setanta Sports Cup on 14 April, and against Cobh Ramblers in the Munster Senior Cup on 1 July 2008. Before Cork's match against Sligo Rovers on 3 August, Mulcahy refused to be on the substitute bench. After 9 days, action was taken against Dave. His contract was terminated. City boss Alan Mathews said: "Refusing to play when selected is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. When people refuse to work, there is only one option."

Return to St. Patrick's Athletic

Mulcahy was re-signed by St Pat's for the 2010 season. He scored some crucial goals against Sporting Fingal to snatch a draw and also a week later away to Bohemians in Dalymount Park to also grab a point for the Supersaints in the 92nd minute. Mulcahy scored for the Airtricity League XI in a friendly vs Manchester United in the Aviva Stadium on 4 August 2010 which took his tally to 5 goals in the last 4 games. He is the only player to score a goal in the last football game at the old Lansdowne Road and the first game at the new Lansdowne Road (Aviva Stadium) [3]. Mulcahy had a superb 2010 season, regaining his hero status and gaining the nickname 'beast' by the Saints fans. Mulcahy re-signed for the Saints on the 21st of January 2011 [4]. Mulcahy made his 100th appearance for Pats on the 25th of March 2011 [5] against Dundalk and he scored the winner in a 3-2 win for the Saints in a game where they were 2-0 down [6].
