He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State University by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was a first team All-American in 1998.
He played his high school football in Liberty, Missouri. His jersey hangs on the wall in Liberty High School. David Allen returned seven punts for a touchdown in his career, which tied the NCAA record in 1999.
