Cash For Laptops (CashForLaptops.com) is a laptop recycling company in Sparks, Nevada, that claims to be the first company to offer to buy used laptops online, in 2001.[1] It encourages computer users to sell laptops as an alternative to trashing them as electronic waste.[2]

Its basic business model is to provide a seller an instant online sales quote based on laptop characteristics, then to send a shipping label and prepaid box to the seller, to erase, reformat, and process the laptop, and to pay rapidly by check.[3] When items do not match the seller's description, Cash For Laptops lowers its quote if the product has additional problems, or raises the payout price if the specifications are better than stated, such as with mismeasured display screens.[1]

Founded in 2001, and with two offices in the South Reno area, its CEO is Dave Kruch.[3][4] It is a division of Laptop and Desktop Repair, L.L.C.,[5][6] a reseller of electronics replacement parts and certified licensee member of TRUSTe.[7] Its current website was launched in 2004.[4][8] It also started Cash For iPhones, in 2008, in response to the popularity of the iPhone 3G and a high degree of upgrades from outdated iPhones,[9] and it has domains for its divisions Cash For Berrys and Cash For Smartphones.[1]

Cash For Laptops had a spike in business in the first quarter of 2009 (attributed to the national recession), during which it went from five to twelve employees;[1] at this time it also obtained a lease of a 2,000-square-foot (190 m2) commercial flex space property in Oakcrest Business Park, in Sparks, Nevada.[10] Cash For Laptops counts over 20,000 customers.[1]
