Dapeng Peninsula or Dapengbandao (大鹏半岛) is a peninsula in the east of Longgang district, that lies in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. Dapengbandao consists of the subdistricts Kuichong, Dapeng and Nan'ao. The peninsula is surrounded in the southwest by Mirs Bay and in the northeast by Daya Bay. Throughout the whole peninsula Dapeng dialect is the major dialect. Since the end of the Ming dynasty Dapeng has the sea fort Dapengcheng. It was made to protect the people from attacks of Japanese pirates. During the Second Opium War the discussion about annexation as part of British Hong Kong was started. But it was never invaded by the British.During the Cultural Revolution the region had a large famine.
Tourism
Dapeng Peninsula was selected as one of the most beautiful beaches of China by Chinese National Geography. And it is the main part of the Shenzhen East Coast, which is a famous tourist attraction.
One of the greatest beaches is Xichong, in the south of the peninsula.
