Club career
Early career
A product of the youth team at América (MG), Danilo made his debut at the 2009 Campeonato Mineiro. He played nine matches in the Série C 2009, and helped his club to gain the promotion to Série B 2010.
Santos FC
In May 2010, Danilo was transferred to Santos, which investor DIS Esporte acquired 37.5% economic rights and Santos acquired another 37.5% for free. The remain 25% was retained by América.[1] In the rest of 2010 season, Danilo was a "12th man" for the club, coming off the bench in the most part of the Brasileirão 2010. In 2011, Danilo, had his playing time more extensive, and after impressive performances, he attracted the attention of the both Portuguese giants, Benfica and Porto. Porto won the race to buy the player, but his presentation on Dragões will be on December 2011, after the 2011 FIFA Club World Cup. His fee was €13M for 100% economic rights, and with a €50M release clause. His contract runs until June 2016[2][3]
