Daniel Siboni (b. June 2, 1959) is a French photographer who has been recognized over the last 30 years [1] for his artistic accomplishments in interior architecture, fashion photography and [2] street photography. His work in fashion photography has included numerous covers for ‘’Elle’’ Magazine throughout 2004, 2005 and 2006, ‘’Dior’’ advertisements, Chanel, Levis, ‘’Vogue’’ as well as ad campaigns for designers such as Christian Audigier, Elite Model’s Fashion, 7 for All Mankind, Marisa K, Faust (Summer 2004), Monahmour, Seven7 jeans, Lee Cooper, Cointreau, Le Printemps, Collette Dinigan, Christian Lacroix, Keita Maruyama and many more.

Daniel Siboni’s fine art photography has been shown in such venues as the National Portrait Gallery in London, the wildly successful Art Basel Miami show “In Fashion ‘07” and the “Year of Fashion” – so designated by the Photography Institute of New York for 2009. His fine art work has been said to incorporate a unique view of fashion, sometimes with a gritty, immediate urban feel, but also full of energy and irony. He has been quoted as saying: "I walk in major cities, I shoot its streets, sidewalks, walls, stores windows, billboard, magazine covers, news stands, anything that captures a moment, the present. The juxtaposition and clash of big cities architecture, street art, fashion and advertising over exposing our modern icons creates a global urban art that reflects our time.”

Biography

Early Life and Education

Daniel Siboni was born in Rabat, Morocco and raised in one of Paris’ most artistic areas “Place de la Victoire” (the victory place), which attracts creative artists from all over the world. Daniel’s passion for photography started at an early age, observing his grandfather David Dahan working in his studio. His grandfather later became a famous photographer in Morocco and Israel.

At age 15, Siboni participated in a young photography competition in Paris sponsored by “Laville de Paris.” In addition to winning professional photography equipment, his winning photo “City of Paris” was published in different Parisian magazines. At age 24, given his passion for design, he entered the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris to study interior architecture.

Career

During his studies, he was recruited to work for a private architectural firm to develop interior design concepts for some of Paris’ most famous restaurants and private homes such as “Drugstore Opera,” “Le Glory Echiqufice,” “De Chevauier de temple,” “Station de nuit,” “Le Vouvray,” “Les Rois Feneants” and “Studio Victoire.

After ten years working at a private architectural firm, Siboni decided to launch his own concept restaurant bar, Zinc Bar, in the fashionable 11th arrondissement district of Paris. Attracting a fashion crowd, this successful bar was frequented by top models, magazine fashion editors and fashion designers. It also featured his own photography.

Three months after opening, he was approached by the publisher of ‘’Lola Mag’’, a famous Parisian fashion magazine, to feature one of his photos “New York City.” In 1982 at age 34, he became the director of photography for ‘’Lola Mag’’ with responsibility for overseeing the production, coordination and shooting of all magazine covers and fashion spreads.

Two years later, returning to his original love of photography, Siboni opened his own photography studio/gallery “101” in the place he was raised, “Place de la Victoire”. Inspired by the works of such avant-garde photographers including Richard Avedon, Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton. From this 4,000-square-foot (370 m2) conceptual gallery, he photographed magazine covers for clients such as Marions Nuo, Citizen K, Madame Figaro, as well as catalogs for clients including Levi’s, Le Cppr and Paris’ largest department store Printemps. The gallery also served as an exhibition and even space to launch new product lines from Europe’s most prestigious designers including Chanel and Dior.

In addition to running his gallery, he expanded his international business by launching Eden Productions in Majorca, Spain. Under this company, he traveled the world shooting photography for catalogs and advertising campaigns for clients including ‘’Madame Figaro’’ magazine in New York, ‘’Numero’’ magazine, Da-Nang, 7 For All Mankind and Nicky Hilton in Los Angeles, Victor & Rolf, Levis, Cointreau in London, Eden Production in Spain, Mayantl-ds in Milan, Italy, Prime Time and Le Club de Creator of Beauty in Morocco, Israel, Africa (South Africa, Cameroon and Senegal), Body One in Brazil and RG512 in Thailand.

In 2006, Daniel spent several months in New York, his favorite city, which inspired his first successful exhibition in the U.S., “Urban City” at the Backdoor Art Gallery on Robertson In Beverly Hills. His latest photography exhibit is showing at Melrose Art Gallery in Los Angeles.

Currently Daniel has continued to evolve with his latest endeavor, the opening of “Innerspace” which is a concept he created to host galleries and art fair from all over the world. A spacious New York style loft with a mix of French deco in the heart of the Fashion District in Downtown Los Angeles, Innerspace LA is dedicated dedicated to the display, entertainment and sharing of art knowledge in an ever-changing environment that is also available for movie production, photo shoots, and art exhibitions. The loft includes one of the only "water bars" in Los Angeles. Innerspace features Siboni’s artwork during the famous Festival de Cannes. He is under the exclusive management of Gilles Bendenoun who is known for his marketing work for legendary jean maker Gerard Guez, one of the originators of the brand Sasson.
