Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.Occupation Actor, Model, Musician Daniel Christopher Newman (born June 14, 1981) is an American actor, model and member of the band The Vanderbilts. He appeared in Cirque du Freak, starring along Salma Hayek, Willem Dafoe, and John C. Reilly.[1]
Life and career
Newman studied at Yale University, through a special honors program before moving to New York City to pursue a music career. Following Newman's move to New York, he struggled as a musician for a short time before meeting well-known photographer, Bruce Weber. Daniel began modeling, appearing worldwide on magazine covers and various other advertising. Most notably, he modeled for Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Tommy Hilfiger. Daniel then landed several guest spots on popular American television shows including, Heroes, One Tree Hill and 7th Heaven.[2][3]
To improve his chances in the film and television industry, and to enhance his talents as an actor, he attended The William Esper Studio in New York City. Since then, he's appeared as Jimmy Keppler in the NBC TV series, Heroes, and as Matt, on Drop Dead Diva on Lifetime, appeared with Snoop Dogg and Sarah Roemer in the feature film Falling Up, on One Tree Hill, as Trevor in Lifetime's highest rated television movie ever, Fab Five, as well as appearing in numerous roles in the theatre in NYC and Los Angeles.
His most high-profile theatrical roles to date are the feature film The Vampire's Assistant, based by the novel Cirque Du Freak, starring with Willem Defoe, Salma Hayek, and John C. Reilly, as well as playing Razor in Road Trip, and appearing in the remake of Stephen King's Children of the Corn set to air on the Syfy in 2009.[4][dated info] Daniel appeared as the role of Malachai, a character portrayed by Courtney Gains in the original 1984 film adaptation.
The Vanderbilts, Newman's rock band, is currently working with producer Tony Shimkin (Prince, Madonna) on an album.[5] Daniel recently worked with Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction on a song for Twilight, and has several other of his songs on television/film soundtracks.
Newman also bears a resemblance to current WWE Superstar Heath Slater.
