He plays for the Down senior inter county football team and with his local club Burren GAA. He is the younger brother of current Down manager James McCartan.[1]
He started at right corner back in the 2010 All-Ireland Football Final where Down were defeated 0-15 to 0-16 by Cork.[2] Dan has won 2 down championship in 2010 & 2011 . On the 20 of November he helped Burren to an ulster final where they will play all Ireland champions Crossmaglen.
