Dr. Daniel J. Caron (born Sainte-Foy, Quebec in 1957^[2]) is the current Librarian and Archivist of Canada. He was appointed on April 24, 2009. Caron has also been a professor, author and public speaker.

Education

Caron graduated with a bachelor's and a master's degree in economics from Laval University, and earned a doctorate in applied human sciences from the University of Montreal.

Career

Caron began his public service in 1982 at the Competition Bureau and also worked for the National Museums of Canada Corporation, the Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Later, in the 1990s, he worked at the Economic Development Agency of Canada for Quebec. Through the 2000s, he had worked at Human Resources Development Canada and a year in the Treasury Board Secretariat. He then joined the National Archives in 2003 as the Director General of the Corporate Management Branch working his way up the ranks.^[3]
