Dagai — Town and union council — Country Pakistan Province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa District Swabi District Tehsil Time zone PST (UTC+5) Dagai is a village and Union Council of Swabi District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Dagai, known from outside as Yarhussain Dagai, is located 5km south of Shewa adda, the main commercial area of the region, and 2km east of Yarhussain. It is the most educated village of District Swabi. Its education ratio is 80%.[citation needed] Daily more than 1000 students from Dagai go outside the village to different private schools and govt/private colleges. The people of Dagai are very social, peaceful and hospitable like Late Rehmat Haji or Shahbaz Khan kaka. Dagai consist of 5 Mohollas, namely Zanki khel, Alladad khel, Juna khel, Sultan khel,and Hamza Khel and its population is 30,000. There is one BHU, one post office, one higher secondary school and two primary schools for girls, as well as one govt high school, one middle school and three primary school for boys. There is one HBL Branch and one utility store in Dagai. Due to peaceful environment in Dagai, the property value is highest as compared to other near villages up to 2-3 lak per Marla/perch. There are many men of Dagai working in different parts of the world, such as the Middle East, UK, Europe, and Australia.
There are 3 CSS, 17 MBBS doctors, 6 PhDs, while 10 PhDs are in process, 10 MS/MPhil Dagai, many lecturers, teachers and a lot of Master Degree Holders in Dagai.
It is one of the largest villages in district Swabi. According to the census of 1998 (Pakistan), its population was over 16000.[citation needed] It lies in the most southern part of Swabi, with Dandoka to its north, Tarakai to its west, Maneri to its east and Urmal Dheri to its south. People of Dagai mostly belong to the Yousafzai tribe of Pukhtoons. Major streets of the village include Hamza Khel, Juna Khel, Alladad Khel, Sultan Khel and Zaanki Khel.
According to a report of UNESCO, Dagai was the village with maximum enrollment of students on each standard (Primary, Middle, High, Higher Secondary and even on Degree Level). Almost 95% of its male population is literate, due to which it has been seen as a model village in the areas of emerging education ratio.
It has a BHU (basic health unit) with a male doctor every time in the hospital premises.
This land has created a lot of khudai khidmatgar nationalists and always dominated by the nationalists. Two of the leaders were very prominent in the whole province for their contributions to the development of the village and their hospitality;named shahbaz khan and haji sb. Like other parts of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, there are few feudal, but common man does not care about them. Dagi has produced prominent politicians like Haji Rehmat Khan, Fazal Dad Khan, Shahbaz Khan, poets like Bekas, civil servants like Mr. Farman Ullah Khan who works as the current Pakistan's Counsel General in Kandahar, Afghanistan (2010 onwards), Mr. Abdul Akbar who works as Pakistan's Press Attache in the country's Embassy in Turkey (2010 onwards), Mr. Mumtaz Ahmad, who is DC Income Tax of Haripur, 4 Ph.D's (Muhammad Riaz, Salih Mohammad, Jehanzeb Khan, Asad Ali), besides many professionals such as doctors, engineers and professors. On political front, if any candidate wins overwhelming majority from this village, he succeeds in the national and provincial elections. So the village become important during national elections.
