Cynoglossus is a genus of tonguefish. It is indigenous to the Indo-West Pacific region, most commonly found in shallow muddy or sandy waters along the coast of the Philippines, Thailand and the Malay peninsular, the South China Sea, Burma, the Bay of Bengal and as far west as the Red Sea. Some species such as Cynoglossus acaudatus however, are more commonly found in the western Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa.
