The Countess Free Church is a church in the Cambridgeshire city of Ely.[1] Founded by the Countess of Huntingdon, the church is part of the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion along with over 20 other churches.[2] They meet twice on a Sunday as well as holding services and groups for people of all ages.[3] The church is located in Chapel Street, near Ely cathedral and the current pastor is Gordon Lowman.[1]

In 2008 the Countess set up a new church in the High Barns area of Ely. New Connexions@High Barns, as the church is called, meet at St Marys Junior School on Sunday Morning from 10:30 to 11:45.[4] The Pastor is Keith Waters.[5]

History

The Countess of Huntingdon Free Church Ely was founded in the 18th century by Selina Hastings, the Countess of Huntingdon.[6] The church is part of the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion, a small protestant denomination.

Services and Groups

The Countess Free Church have two services on Sunday, one in the morning and one in the evening. The morning service is held from 10:30am in the church hall and the evening service from 6:30pm or from 5:00pm every 5th Sunday.[3] The Countess also has various groups that meet throughout the week. These groups include Prayer Groups, House Groups and Alpha Groups.[7] The Countess holds activities for young people, ranging from toddler groups to teen services.[8]

New Connexions@High Barns

In 2008 the Countess set up a new church in the High Barns area of Ely. New Connexions@High Barns (NC@HB) meet every Sunday morning from 10:30 to 11:45am at St Marys Junior School.[9] NC@HB and The Countess work closely together and many members of NC@HB attend the evening services at The Countess. The Current pastor at NC@HB is Keith Waters.[5]
