Cottage Industries Exposition Limited Type Public Industry Carpets and Handicrafts Founded 1978 Headquarters Dubai, UAE Key people A Rashid Mir [1] Website SAGA World Dubai, SAGA Departmental Stores Cottage Industries Exposition Limited (CIE) [2] [3]is a multinational company engaged in the business of Carpets, Handicrafts and other heritage items of India and the Middle East.[4]
Cottage Industries Exposition Ltd was established in 1978 as a recognized export-trading house. CIE has successfully contributed to improving the cottage and village industry in India and has helped artisans and master craftsman to present their art to international buyers worldwide
Unfortunately if you buy goods from CIE, insure those goods for transport home and those goods are lost in transit you can expect it to take months, if not years, to ultimately settle the insurance claim. CIE will make claims that are roughly double the value of the goods you purchased and generally delay and obfuscate in its dealings with the insurer. This leaves you, the purchaser out of pocket for some time and with no goods received.
Worse yet you'll be exposed to foreign exchange risk while this transaction is settled and CIE will then offer you a pittance for settlement and delay payment. This of course assumes you can get any kind of response to e-mails as you will incur significant call costs to contact CIE in India while you try to resolve your claim.
While their products are beautiful and the creators of the work are artisans this is not by any stretch a benevolent organization. All products are massively overpriced - at least 10-15 times the actual price. CIE targets foreigners who are visiting India for the first time, who do not know anything about prices in India. It is a corporate body that seeks to profit at the expense of its customers at every turn.
Beyond the Indian shores, this concern for heritage is sustained by establishing emporia in Thailand, Mauritius, Indonesia, Combodia, Africa, the Middle East, United Kingdom and the United States provide an opportunity not only to view and share the Indian heritage from the days gone by but also provide an opportunity to possess an unrivalled range of carpets of matchless excellence, extravagant Pashmina shawls, scintillating silk furnishing, golden and silver gilded artifacts, exquisite reproductions of Islamic art and miniatures. The list is as wide as the diversity on view.
CIE stands on the strong foundation of highly skilled, dedicated craftspeople. Its phenomenal growth can be attributed to these people and discerning tastes of its clients, meticulous planning and gratifying results.
CIE’s mission has been to make available to the global visitor an unforgettable taste of the refined and culturally rich heritage of India. A unique organization that celebrates and nurtures the creativity of man, developed over millennia. At the centre of CIE's Business Model are a hundred thousand craftsmen and their families who are guided, supervised and supported by infrastructure on a massive scale.
Bill Clinton, Madeline Albright, Carl Lewis, Bill Gates, Madonna & Paul McCartney are CIE clients.[5]
CIE is the unique blend of traditional arts and artifacts with modern retail design making for ultimate luxury in shopping experience.
