Writing and development
The tracks used on the Cosmic Dancer album were released via download on Siobhan Fahey's official web site over a period of years. These tracks were not given inclusion on Shakespears Sister's forth studio album, Songs from the Red Room, released in 2009. Fahey decided to release these tracks as the fith studio album in 2011.
The album mainly consists of acoustic tracks and several cover versions, such as "Dancing Barefoot" by Patti Smith, "My World Is Empty Without You" by The Supremes, "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd and the album's title track, "Cosmic Dancer" by Marc Bolan. The album also includes an acoustic version of Shakespears Sister's own hit "Goodbye Cruel World".[1]
