Corpse Party (コープスパーティー Kōpusu Pātī?) is a horror adventure dōjin soft video game series developed by Team GrisGris. The first game in the series was developed using the RPG Maker software and released in 1996 for the PC-9801. It was followed by two remakes: Corpse Party: Blood Covered, which was released for the Microsoft Windows PC on March 8, 2008; and Corpse Party: Blood Covered Repeated Fear, which was released for the PlayStation Portable on August 12, 2010, and will be released in North America by Xseed Games under the title Corpse Party.[1] The PSP game was followed by a sequel, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, which was released on September 1, 2011, also on the PlayStation Portable. There are two manga adaptions based on the games: Corpse Party: Blood Covered, published by Square Enix; and Corpse Party: Musume, published by Media Factory.

Plot

The game's story is set in Heavenly Host Elementary School (天神小学校 Tenjin Shōgakkō?), an elementary school that was torn down following the murders and disappearances of several of its staff and students. By the start of the series, another school called Kisaragi Academy (如月学園 Kisaragi Gakkō?) has been built over the elementary school site. One night, a group of students from Kisaragi are telling ghost stories about the old school when they are suddenly transported by a mysterious earthquake to another dimension where Heavenly Host Elementary still exists and is haunted by the ghosts of the school's murdered children. The player takes control of the Kisaragi Academy students as they try to find their way home and survive the other mysterious forces that haunt the school.

Characters

The original game features five playable characters, each of them students from Kisaragi Academy. The main character is Satoshi Mochida, a timid yet kindhearted high school student who is teased by his classmates for his cowardly nature. Three of the other characters are students from Satoshi's class: Naomi Nakashima, Satoshi's tomboyish childhood friend; Ayumi Shinozaki, the class representative who enjoys telling ghost stories; and Yoshiki Kishinuma, an intimidating yet good-natured student. Rounding out the group is Yuka Mochida, a middle school student and Satoshi's younger sister.

The game's remake Blood Covered introduces four playable characters in addition to the five core members from the original game: Seiko Shinohara, Naomi's cheerful best friend; Mayu Suzumoto, a popular student due to transfer out of the school; Sakutarō Morishige, Mayu's best friend; and Yui Shishido, the class's teacher. Unlike the original game, the characters in Blood Covered are split into groups that are separated from each other, and must reunite before escaping the school. Blood Covered also introduces several non-playable characters who are also trapped inside Heavenly Host Elementary and affect the story, including Yūya Kizami, a psychopathic high school student from a different school who acts as one of the game's antagonists, and Naho Saenoki, another high school student from another school who investigates Heavenly Host Elementary and acts as a guide of sorts for the player character.
