- Corporate grapevine
-
Corporate Grapevine refers to the informal interactions happening within an organization. It is usually believed that more than 80% of Organizational communication between employees is informal. However, not all informal interactions are supposed to happen within an organization between the employees. It can amongst any of the stakeholders with some form of association with the organization.
Robert L. Dilenschneider, one of the Board members of Institute of International Education, believes that Employees always want more and not less information, has suggested the following ways to tame the corporate grapevine [1]:- accept the reality of the grapevine. And don't ever think you are above it.
- assume that there will be leaks in any planned action.
- respond when you are attacked ... turn the grapevine to your own use.
- develop formal relationships with company insiders.
- speak people speak. Be direct and say what you mean.
- establish your own sub-micro grapevine.
