The Cork Senior Hurling Championship 2008 was the 122nd since its establishment in 1887. The first matches of the season were played on 3 May 2008, and the championship ended on 28 September 2008. Erin's Own went into the 2008 championship as defending champions, having won their second county title the previous year.

The championship culminated with the county final, held at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Cork. The match was contested by Erin's Own and Bride Rovers. It was their very first meeting in a county final. Erin's Own won the game by 2-14 to 2-13. It was their second county title in succession and a third overall for the club.

Contents

Format

Twenty-five teams take part in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. All games are played on an open-draw basis, however, these teams are divided into two sections:

  • the club section contains 16 teams
  • the divisional and college section contains 9 teams.

In Round 1 each team will play one game so 8 games will be played altogether. The 8 winners of these games will advance directly to Round 3 which is, in effect, the last 16 of the championship.

In Round 2 the 8 losing teams from the first round will have another chance to make it to the knock-out stages of the championship. Each team will play one game so 4 games will be played altogether. The 4 winners of these games will advance directly to the last 16 of the championship.

The 4 losing teams from the second round will take part in the Relegation Play-Offs. Two semi-finals will be played with the two losing teams playing each other in the relegation final. The loser of this game will be relegated to the Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.

Divisional/College section

In 2007 the following 9 teams will be participating in the divisional and college section of the Cork SHC:

  • Seandún
  • Avondhu
  • Imokily

In Round 1 each team will play one game so 4 games will be played altogether. 3 of these will advance directly to the last 16 of the championship.

The fourth team will play the one remaining team in a Round 2 game. The winner of this game will advance directly to the last 16 of the championship. There will be no second chance for a divisional or college side to make in to the knock-out stages.
