History
It was formed on 1 January 2000 as a merger of the National Council of Building Materials Producers and the Association of Construction Products and Suppliers.
Function
The Association acts as a single voice to promote and campaign for construction product manufacturers and suppliers, in order to support a growing and profitable industry. Its growing credibility can be seen by the increasing influence it has with Government Departments and other industry and political bodies. It represents suppliers and manufacturers on the Strategic Forum for Construction.
The Association has four key areas in which it aims to influence:
- 1. Investing in the built environment
The Association aims to ensure that public sector investment in the built environment is maintained at a level that provides the vital housing, education, energy and transport necessary for rapid economic recovery and to meet environmental targets whilst creating jobs and maintaining skills necessary to deliver long-term economic growth
- 2. Creating a supportive business environment
The Association aims to ensure that the business environment in the UK provides a framework that encourages increased productivity, innovation and investment, does not place companies at an operational disadvantage and assists them in improving their competitiveness
- 3. Improving industry performance
The Association aims to help manufacturers and suppliers improve their performance in order to increase levels of productivity and profitability and through this, assist the whole of the construction industry to deliver better value construction projects to its clients
- 4. Delivering sustainable construction
The Association aims to work with the construction products industry in the development of products and processes that contribute to a more sustainable built environment
Publications
The Association publishes 24 economic publications[1] per year covering the construction and product manufacturing industries. The most widely covered in the press are the construction industry forecasts.
Structure
It is situated between both parts of the A400 in Bloomsbury, central London. Goodge Street tube station is to the west, and the office is next to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
