MyBus is a service operated on behalf of the States of Jersey by Connex Transport Jersey, a local subsidiary of Veolia Transport. MyBus offer frequent bus routes around the island of Jersey. There are also daily School Bus Routes.[1]

The company was awarded the contract, valued at £4.2m[2], in September 2002 for a duration of 7 years; it displaced the incumbent operator (JMT, which traded as Jersey Bus). The award of the contract was the subject of a long-running controversy: a commission of enquiry took place in January-February 2005 to establish the circumstances of the award of the contract. [3].

The Connex contract was renewed for a further 3 years in 2008.

Text MyBus

In 2008, MyBus launched a SMS alert service, similar to other ones operated by Connex. They work by having the user text the code of the specific bus stop, and their automatic service sends a list of the next buses to arrive at that stop.[4]

Fleet

The original MyBus fleet comprised 33 MPD sized Dennis Dart SLF chassis with Caetano Slimbus bodies. A further 19 Slimbuses have since been purchased for the main fleet, though these are to the longer 10 metre spec. A secondary fleet of some 16 Dennis Darts with Plaxton Pointer bodies (a mix of ex-JMT vehicles and former mainland examples, mostly ex-Armchair) and 9 Mercedes O814 chassis with Plaxton Beaver bodies are used for school services. The Darts are painted in plain sky blue: the Beavers are white.

During April 2010 MyBus trialled a single Alexander Dennis Enviro400 on its route between St Helier and Jersey Airport, and during August of the same year an Alexander Dennis Enviro200 was trialled on the major 1 (Gorey) and 15 (Airport) routes. Five Enviro200s went into service with MyBus in March 2011 in a new white livery with blue and gold decals. These are limited to operating the 1 and 15 routes under a derogation from Jersey's limitations on wide vehicles; these were followed in June 2011 by the purchase of two Enviro400s, which are restricted to the 15 route.

Routes

MyBus runs services on 20 routes during the winter timetable period (end of September to end of May). Three colour-coded Explorer routes (Red, Blue and Green) run between April and October; a fourth (the Yellow route) was withdrawn in 2011 and replaced by an all-year circular route.
