Information about elected commissioners
- Fernando Barberini was elected to the Commission scolaire Jérôme-Le Royer in 1990 and re-elected in 1994; he was subsequently elected to the successor Commission scolaire de la Pointe-de-l'Île in 1998 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007. Since the mid-2000s, he has chaired the Comité de gestion de la taxe scolaire de l’île de Montréal, which manages taxes for all of Montreal's school boards. Barberini opposed the provincial government's decision to introduce significant tax increases based on property re-evaluation in 2004; he argued that the increase should have been phased in over several years and welcomed a subsequent provincial decision to ensure gradual increases in the future.[1] He sought permission from the provincial government to run a deficit in 2009, after problems emerged in one of the commission's investments.[2] Barberini was a director of the federally incorporated company Friends of Alfonso Gagliano Inc. in the 1990s, although he has said his only involvement was dealing with mail.[3]
