Due to the song's popularity, the band was able to join the Beatles on their first American tour, along with the Righteous Brothers.[3]
It was written by songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, as well as Wes Ferrell, and became Boyce and Hart's first top-10 hit.[4]
Popular culture
The song was featured on the 2006 Gilmore Girls episode "The Great Stink" and was covered by The Iguanas for the 1996 film, The Big Squeeze, starring Lara Flynn Boyle and Danny Nucci.
