It has five coal powered steam turbines with a combined generation capacity of 190 MW of electricity.
The coal for Collinsville comes from local open-cut mines.
Collinsville was commissioned in 1976 with one 60 MW and four 30 MW steam turbines. These were refurbished in 1999, and upgraded to 66 MW and 31 MW respectively.
Carbon Monitoring for Action estimates this power station emits 1.34 million tonnes of greenhouse gases each year as a result of burning coal.[1] The Australian Government has announced the introduction of a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme commencing in 2010 to help combat climate change. It is expected to impact on emissions from power stations. The National Pollutant Inventory provides details of other pollutant emissions, but, as at 23 November 2008, not CO2.
