History
In 1944, the city of La Plata had two rugby clubs: Universitario and La Plata RC; disabused players of the former seceded and went on to found Club de Rugby Los Tilos on 29 January 1944.
The name Los Tilos was chosen to honour the city's nickname. La Plata is often called "la ciudad de los tilos" ("city of tilia (linden tree)") because of the large number of linden trees lining many streets and squares.
Originally sharing the city's university installations, the club moved to their current location in Bario Obrero at the beginning of the 1950s.
Rugby
The club only spent two seasons in the URBA third level before being promoted to second division.
Promotion to the top level would come in the 1990s and Los Tilos have been promoted and relegated many times since then.
Although they have won many titles at underage level, the club has yet to win the URBA title at senior level. Their best run in the competition was in 2002 when they reached the semi-final stage, eventually losing to SIC 34-20.[2]
The club have won promotion in 2010 and will once again play at the top level of the URBA league system in 2011.
