Heteroclinus perspicillatus, known commonly as the Common weedfish in Australia,[2] is a species of clinid in the genus Heteroclinus.[3] It is a temperate blenny found in rocky reefs around southern Australia, in the eastern Indian Ocean.[3] It was named by Achille Valenciennes in 1836, originally under the name Clinus perspicillatus,[4] and can reach a maximum length of 20 centimetres.[3] Blennies in this species feed primarily off of zoobenthos,[5] and are preyed upon by bony fish including Platycephalus laevigatus, Asymbolus vincenti, and Gymnapistes marmorarus.[6]
