As of 1 April 2009, 40 DF200s were operated by JR Freight, all based at Washibetsu Depot.[2] Seven DF200 locomotives are scheduled to be delivered during fiscal 2009[3], with two more during fiscal 2010.[4]

Variants
DF200-901
Pre-production locomotive delivered in March 1992 for testing. Features two MTU 12V396TE14 diesel engines.[1]
DF200-0
Full-production batch delivered from 1994. Red "JRF" logos were later replaced by white logos. 12 locomotives were built.[1]
DF200-50
Batch built from March 2000 with Komatsu SDA12V170-1 diesel engines in place of the earlier MTU engines. External changes include grey front-end skirts, white "JRF" logos, and "Red Bear Eco Power" logos. 13 locomotives were built.[1]
DF200-100
Batch built from August 2005 onward with IGBT VVVF inverters.[1] As of 1 April 2009, 14 Class DF200-100 locomotives were in service.[2]

The DF200 is available in model form in N gauge from both Kato and Tomix.
