City Wide Maintenance Company, Inc., was founded by Frank Oddo in 1961 in Kansas City, Missouri and has locations in 29 other cities across the United States.[1] City Wide cleans hundreds of buildings every day using the unique two-manager system including a facility services manager, to oversee accounts during the day, and night managers to oversee nightly cleanings for clients.
Originally, the company began solely as a janitorial services company, and today, City Wide’s services range from commercial janitorial to building security and includes various other services such as carpet and upholstery cleaning in addition to window washing and landscaping.[2] The company partners with local independent contractors to provide building maintenance services and focuses on managing those contractors in the company's clients' buildings each night and following up with the maintenance contact at each site to ensure quality. Today, City Wide is run by Jeff Oddo, the second generation owner of the company.

History
1961-1996
Frank Oddo decided to open his own commercial cleaning company when he couldn’t find work after graduating. Originally beginning with only janitorial services in 1961, City Wide slowly added additional services to their repertoire, including window washing and carpet cleaning. Due to his early successes with his business model, Frank Oddo decided to expand in 1966 with City Wide Chemical Company (a proprietary cleaning supply company) and City Wide Development (a small development and construction firm). By Oddo's incorporation of the City Wide Window Cleaning Company in 1968, City Wide Maintenance had grown so much, the company headquarters had moved three times. Frank Oddo also established the City Wide Pest Control Company in 1973.
By 1978, City Wide Chemical Company had become the third largest distributor of cleaning products in Kansas City. In 1986, City Wide Development started its first major project with the Hunter's Pointe apartment complex [3] in Overland Park, KS. In 1987, Frank Oddo's oldest son Rick began working for the company, Hunter's Pointe was finished, and construction started on a custom-made building for the Kansas City Star newspaper. Also during 1987, plans to expand City Wide Maintenance internationally to China were scrapped due to Chinese distrust of American business following the tragedy at Tiananmen Square.
Two years later, Jeff Oddo, Frank Oddo's middle son and current company president begins working for his father selling and managing accounts as well as supervising the sales and administrative staff. In 1990, City Wide Maintenance started their first franchise with the Pro Touch Maintenance Company. In 1994, Brad Oddo, the youngest Oddo begins working for the company, and in the following year, Rick Oddo took over as President of the City Wide Development Company. During that year, Rick Oddo oversaw the start of construction on the Bradford Point apartment complex [4] in Overland Park, KS.
1996-2001
In 1996 the company was taken over by Jeff Oddo, a second generation owner. Oddo is credited with re-engineering the company’s business model and transforming it from a traditional operations company to a professional management company. The company began its partnership with local professionals (independent contractors) in 1999 to provide more services without compromising the quality of work. Also in 1999, the Kansas City, KS headquarters of City Wide Maintenance moved into its current building at 8454 Nieman Rd. in Lenexa, KS.
Several other minor administrative changes happened during this period such as City Wide Development changing its name to Oddo Development [5] and the selling of City Wide Chemical Company to AmSan [6] in 1998 and the founding of the City Wide Franchise Company in 2002 [7]
During this time, Frank Oddo was seriously considered among potential buyers for the Kansas City Royals baseball team in contention with Jerry H. Green and Royals legend George Brett.[8]
2001-Present
In 2001, City Wide began to open other locations, franchises, in cities across the U.S. Denver was the first of the now 34 locations outside of Kansas City. From the sale of the first franchise in St. Louis, MO, City Wide Maintenance has continued to expand across the nation. During this expansion, Brad Oddo started Marathon Processing Systems, a credit card processing company, now called Basys Processing Systems.[9]
In 2011, City Wide Maintenance celebrated its 50th year in business as well as the sale of City Wide of South Jersey in Medford, NJ, the company's 30th franchise.[10]
