He can also play as centre. He plays in the Top 14 for RC Toulonnais.
At 15 Loamanu left his birthplace of Tonga to continue his studies in Japan in Saitama in the suburbs of Tokyo. He speaks both Japanese and English, and is considered well integrated.
He is both strong and fast. He is still regularly picked for the Japan national rugby union team. Loamanu won his first cap for the Japan national rugby union team at the age of 18 years and 11 months (a record) on 16 April 2005 against Uruguay. He was named to the 2007 World Cup squad.
